The Australian Moment by George Megalogenis, journalist, political commentator and author

In The Australian Moment, one of Australia’s most respected journalists, George Megalogenis, traces the key economic reforms since the 1970s and corrects our selective memory where history has been misunderstood or misdirected by self-interested political leadership.

Megalogenis has interviewed former prime ministers, Fraser, Hawke, Keating, Howard and Rudd, as well as Whitlam’s confidant Graham Freudenberg, who candidly re-assess each other’s contribution to the “Australian Moment”.

The Australian Moment demands we reconsider what we have achieved in a nation “brilliant in a bust but selfish in a boom”, our place in the global economy and how we might purposefully approach the future. The Australian Moment is a ground-breaking work in the tradition of Donald Horne’s The Lucky Country and Paul Kelly’s The End of Certainty.

George Megalogenis is the author of Faultlines (2003) and The Longest Decade (2008). He is a senior journalist with The Australian newspaper and runs his own highly regarded blog ‘Meganomics’ in which he bans partisan comments. He is a regular panellist with the ABC’s Insiders program.
